Go For a Walk

I know wandering is a part of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson with Lewy Body Dementia, but walking is a very positive exercise.

Not only is it good for releasing tension, but the health benefit for seniors is significant.  A Harvard Medical School Report advises 150 minutes of walking a week.  The NIH even provides a toolkit for Older Adults.

From my own experience, I find myself more relaxed.  I listen to audio books, music or walk with neighbors.  Patsy is a great social companion – she likes everyone, and everyone is learning her name.

It is important to establish a walking routine as early as possible in the person’s diagnosis. For more information see MAYO CLINIC STUDY OF AGING see the section on cognitive thing especially.

Always take precautions, make sure you have a cell phone that has its “Location Service” turned on, so your caregiver can track you. You can find a list of 10 devices on Alhiemer.net of 10 Lifesaving Location Devices for Dementia Patients.
